Alpha Writers' Group

	Members of Alpha Writers co-operate in regular group writing exercises in which each member contributes to a longer work. Here are the group writing tasks we've undertaken so far. Click on each title for the latest progress and/or to see the finished result. The Phone Book Begun: Alpha Year 4 (2006/2007) Status: Ongoing project A group story with a phone as the theme. Collection of writing Begun: Alpha Year 3 (2006/2007) Status: Ongoing project An anthology of writing - poetry or prose - on the subject of "music". Group Novel Begun: Alpha Year 3 (2006/2007) Status: Ongoing project An attempt to write a complete novel between all 15 members. Circular Book Begun: Alpha Year 2 (2005/2006) Status: Each member contributes a single chapter based around a character, but including the character from the previous chapter so that the stories read in a circular fashion - it doesn't matter where you start in the book, you can still read round to the beginning again. Cliffhanger Begun: Alpha Year 2 (2005/2006) Status: Completed Each participating member writes a story which ends on a cliffhanger. The next member has to pick up on the cliffhanger and write the next chapter... which again ends with a cliffhanger. And so on. Longitudinal exercise #2 Begun: Alpha Year 2 (2005/2006) Status: Completed Same principle as Longitudinal exercise #1 Longitudinal exercise #1 Begun: Alpha Year 1 (2004/2005) Status: Completed A passage of writing is alternately expanded and contracted by each writer - leading to a "Chinese whispers" effect in which the final passage of writing bears little resemblance to the original!
